Seasoned Potato Wedges Recipe

Seasoned Potato Wedges Recipe – Using Sandwich Maker

How many of us have ordered for a Seasoned Potato Wedges in a joint and wondered how they made these so tasty? I certainly did and always wondered how did they even manage to make so much of it because every table had either the wedges or the fries.

I knew how they made Fries, but wanted to see how wedges were made because those two had distinct differences between them and I also believed it was oil fried. Obviously did a quick search and Aha! found it can be made either way –

  • Oil Deep Fried
  • Baked in an Oven

So is the difference between Fries & Wedges just the shape? Well lets discuss that when we have the Fries recipe ready!

We wanted to try this recipe and we had two issues before in mind:

  1. We did not have an oven
  2. Oil Deep Fry – well, too many recipes using oil. Can we do this in any other way?

Once we decided not to use oil, again we were left with reasonable number of options:

  • We could air fry it – Again, we didn’t have an air fryer – Not yet anyway
  • Use a microwave oven.

We almost decided on the microwave oven option, but a quick check revealed so many good wedges recipes showcasing this.

We wanted to try out a different way – we already had attempted cake in a sandwich maker (more on that soon) and wanted to see if this works out as well.

Not only we tried, we did it and successfully too! It came out more beautiful than we had imagined with all the crispiness and taste that you always associate with the wedges.

WAS IT THE SAME AS BAKING OR FRYING?

  • Did it look the same as done baking or frying? Oh yes! – That golden brown layer on the outside was spectacular!
  • Does it taste the same? – It tasted awesome!

Kids love this. Adults gobble this. Mind you – no oil involved. It is a healthier option with no compromise on the taste!

Prepping the Potato
  1. Cut the potato in a lengthy fashion as shown (do not peel the skin), and boil it to 70%. How do you know it is done 70%? - Just prick the potato using the back of the spoon, if it is still hard then keep boiling, if it starts to get soft, then stop. Make sure that the potato does not get completely boiled. Normally it should take 10 minutes of boiling. Allow the potatoes to cool down once boiled.
Seasoning the Potatoes
  1. To this par boiled potato, add all the seasoning powders (chilli, cumin, Asafoetida, Pepper, Oregano), salt and mix well. Once mixed, add the butter to this and mix again thoroughly to form the base.
    Season the Potatoes
  2. Now move the seasoned potato wedges into a sandwich maker, switch on the machine and let it do its magic. Wait until the indicator turns to green, remove the wedges, make sure they are cooked well.

Recipe Notes
  • Allow the potato to cool down after boiling.
  • Use potatoes with lesser starch so that it is crispier and holds its shape.
  • Feel free to use more seasoning powders of your choice. The beauty is, the potato absorbs all and gives a great taste.
  • Feel free to add corn flour as well while seasoning, it adds more crispiness.
